The Rural Energy Awareness and Development – (READ) Sierra Leone is a rural development centered national NGO committed to influencing energy development programs, policies for the benefit of the poor and vulnerable communities in Sierra Leone. Formed in January 2016. READ-SL aims to contribute to the improvement of Renewable Energy (RE), climate change and the environment in the country through the advocacy for and promotion of affordable, clean, reliable, efficient and sustainable source of energy as a poverty alleviation strategy for the rural poor. READ-SL intends to offer services to targeted communities, stakeholders and partners key strategic areas of intervention by promoting effective environmental resource management through public awareness and education campaigns making use of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials, workshop, community meetings and Focus Group discussions. READ-SL has completed a self-sponsored tree planting exercise in Kori chiefdom, Moyamba district and has established a renewable energy technology skills training institution in Bo town. Will soon start the implementation of household electrification in remote communities in Moyamba district.
